Learning Rails By Example
Learning rails with video screen-casts and books
You know when you want to learn some new programming language but you always come up with half done tutorials not very understandable books or videos that are really horrible. Well I have a good news for you. I have two recommendations that you might find very useful.
Learning Rails By Example by Michael Hartl
Michael Hartl has prepared a book and video screen-casts for our use that I can finally recommend. It is very straight forward and teaching you from beginning to end how to develop a web application and deploy it, use version controlling and testing. It is very detailed yet not boring at all. It is a great reference and I recommend to everybody who has interest in learning rails. The book and the video screen-casts are sold for a fee that is a little expensive for a student but no need to be afraid. If you contact Michael Hartl he is willing to give a student discount which is about %50. You can visit Learning Rails by Example website for more info and purchase options.
Rails for Zombies
The second recommendation that you should check out is from “Envy Labs” a web development company based in US and the creator of Rails for Zombies. Besides it is being awesome at teaching rails, it is totally free. It has five videos (or as they call it labs) and tutorials that integrated with the web application that you can use. It is fast fun and very understandable. You will have 5 videos, hands on work, and of course the slides from the videos. Check Rails for Zombies.
