More Linux Users

Russian Government decided to create their own operating system.

There is no doubt that the most widely used operating system on PCs is Windows, however that might change in next 10 years due to the concerns regarding national security of the countries. You probably keep on reading news that some systems are hacked or there are some sophisticated hackers that attack national databases and so on.
It has been rumored for a while that Russia is going to use Linux OS but the details were not clear. Finally Russia has officially confirmed that they are going to move to Linux OS. However Russia decided to use their own Linux OS based on a standard kernel, instead of using an existing Linux distribution.
Russia is planning to use their national operating system in public offices instead of MS Windows machines and it is going to be recommended to be used in universities. Even though Russia is moving to Linux OS. it is not the first country. We have seen countries like Britain and France also using their own national operating systems. Turkey is also using a national Linux distribution called Pardus in some of governmental facilities but not widely.
This kind of moves might not be fast enough and it is definitely not going to effect the market, however it is a good example of use. I have always believed that the countries that ruled by democracy should be transparent as well. Transparency does not come only explaining publicly how much money spent on what, but also using open source software as primary choice for their systems. I also think that if there is a cheaper option out there than the current one and if the adoption of the system will bring more security, more control on the system than it should be used in public systems rather than using propriety software.
